CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE DEAF

Every couple years at my house we receive a fat tabloid newspaper published by the State of Maryland which notifies residents that there is a heap of unclaimed cash out there -- abandoned bank accounts, uncollected refunds, forgotten deposits, and unclaimed paychecks. Just like everyone else does, I look to see if my name is there, just in case...
If your name ever does appear in this paper, all you need to do is log onto the State Comptroller's website and find out what you have and where it is. There is also a chance that you will get a letter from a scammer who, for a price, promises to do your paperwork for you in order to get your money.
Any money that is not claimed by a certain deadline will briefly belong to the government. I say "briefly," because the government will promptly spend it.
If you own unclaimed property, remember three important things:
(1) The money is yours. You already own it. You need do nothing more than just claim it.
(2) The money is not doing you any good until you do claim it.
(3) If you don't claim it while you have a chance, a day will come when it will be too late.
Does this sound familiar? Most people in the world are exactly in that situation for their eternal salvation. Christ Jesus has given you a great treasure. The Bible says that His sacrifice on the cross was for the whole world, for all people that have ever lived and will ever live, and that includes you. Jesus paid in full your debt to God. He offers you complete forgiveness at no charge to you. He has already credited your account. This treasure is already yours. You need do nothing more than to claim it by faith.
But until you receive His gift by faith, what Jesus has done for you will not do you any good. And just like the State's unclaimed property fund, the day will come when it will be too late.
If you have been playing around with the idea that maybe someday you will get serious with God and finally take Him up on His offer, that "someday" is now. Tomorrow may be too late. The Bible promises:
Anyone who believes in Christ is a new creation. The old is gone! The new has come! It is all from God. He brought us back to himself through Christ’s death on the cross. And He has given us the task of bringing others back to him through Christ.
God was bringing the world back to himself through Christ. He did not hold people’s sins against them. God has trusted us with the message that people may be brought back to Him. So we are Christ’s official messengers. It is as if God were making His appeal through us. Here is what Christ wants us to beg you to do. Come back to God!
Christ didn’t have any sin. But God made Him become sin for us. So we can be made right with God because of what Christ has done for us.
We work together with God. So we are asking you not to receive God’s grace and then do nothing with it. He says, “When I showed you My favor, I heard you. On the day I saved you, I helped you.”
I tell you, now is the time God shows His favor. Now is the day He saves. (2 Corinthians 5:17 - 6:2 NIrV)
